La Candelaria Neighbourhood Free Tour
Tour Details
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at the intersection between Carrera 7 and Calle 11 and from there, we'll begin to discover every corner of the historic neighbourhood of La Candelaría. Did you know that Bogota was founded here in 1538?
As we walk down the steep cobblestone streets, we'll hear about the important cultural heritage and architecture of this area of the Colombian capital, as well as the stories behind the names of the streets.
During the free tour, we'll pass by some of the most famous museums in Bogotá, such as the Museum of Independence - Casa del Florero or the House of Manuelita Sáenz, which commemorates Colombia's independence.
Afterwards, we'll pass by the Bolívar Square, the city's main square, and see the Calle 10 of La Candelaria, where you'll find the neighbourhood's main attractions. We'll pass the Iglesia de San Ignacio de Loyola, the San Carlos Palace, the Fundación Casa Rafael Pombo, and the Museo Militar.
Then, we'll reach the Museo de la Moneda, which houses the Numismatic Collection of the Bank of the Republic since 1996. Our next stop will be at the historic Plazoleta del Rosario, which was known as the Plaza de San Francisco during the colonial period. Did you know that many public and religious events are celebrated here?
Before ending our tour, we'll stop at the Monument to Policarpa Salavarrieta, nicknamed "La Pola," considered a heroine of Colombian independence. We'll tell you all about her!
Finally, we'll reach the Chorro de Quevedo to conclude this free tour of La Candelaria Neighbourhood. After 3.5 hours together, we'll say our goodbyes.
