Saona Island Beach Excursion
Description
Between 7 and 9 am, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Boca Chica. From there, we'll hit the road for Bayahíbe, where we'll take a boat to Cotubanamá National Park. During the trip, we'll make a brief stop to check out Palmilla beach, a beautiful natural environment surrounded by coconut trees and fine sand.
Next we'll sail to Saona Island, an amazing islet within Cotubanamá National Park, also known as Parque Nacional del Este. There, we'll visit Playa La Caleta and Playa Mano Juan, two beaches known for their crystalline natural pools.
Time for lunch! We'll refuel with a traditional meal by the sea consisting of rice, meat, salad, pasta and a non-alcoholic beverage.
After lunch, we'll walk through the town of Mano Juan to admire the traditional colorful houses and visit the sea turtle conservation center, where we'll learn about all the protocols necessary to care for the hatchlings of these beautiful animals. Between August and September, you may even be able to see newborn turtles!
Then, we'll go to Los Flamencos beach to take a well-deserved swim and watch some of the area's most impressive native birds. Later, we'll get back on the boat and go through the mangrove areas, aquatic forests full of red, white, button and black mangroves. If you want, you can even jump off the boat to admire the starfish below up close, being careful, of course, not to disturb them.
To put the finishing touch on the day, we'll enjoy a delicious cocktail with Dominican rum. Then, we'll head to the pier of Bayahíbe to take the bus back to Boca Chica, where arrival at your hotel is scheduled for sometime between 5 and 6:30 pm.
