Day Trip Details
If you're in Bilbao and have already seen what the city has to offer, do you fancy venturing to the wine-producing regions of Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa? For this, at the scheduled time, we'll meet in the centre of the city, next to the Guggenheim Museum, and begin this trip which will take us to 2 hundred-year-old wineries in Laguardia and Haro. Let's go!
Firstly, we'll travel to Haro, the wine capital of Rioja. We'll first visit the la Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España, a winery where we'll hear about the best-kept secrets of this prized product. We'll pass through the barrel room, designed by the architect Gustave Eiffel, as well as the underground cellars. Before leaving the winery, we'll enjoy a delicious wine tasting.
Afterwards, we'll make our way into Haro to explore its old town, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in the year 1975. The Bendaña Palace, the palace of the Counts of Haro, the town hall and Plaza de la Paz Square will be some of the points that we'll pass by.
Next, we'll make our way to the medieval village of Laguardia. We'll stroll around the small cobblestone streets of the capital of Rioja Alvesa, and enter a traditional winery where we'll learn about the wine-producing process from a different perspective and also try some of the winery's products.
You'll have some free time in Laguardia to grab a bite to eat in one of the local restaurants. Once we've filled our bellies, we'll begin our return journey back to Bilbao, but not before we head to Elciego to admire the impressive building of the Marqués de Riscal Winery, a symbol of Rioja Alavesa.
We'll bring this tour to an end back at the starting point after 8 hours together.
