Private Tour of Besalú
We'll meet at 11 am at the Romanesque bridge of Besalú to kick off our private tour of this picturesque town in Girona. We'll learn about the history of Besalú and the region of La Garrocha, located in the northeast of Catalonia and famous for its natural park.
We'll cross the monumental Romanesque bridge of the 11th century and enter the charming historic center of Besalú, a great example of conservation of cultural heritage. Its streets still preserve the same layout and construction as during medieval times, making this a stunning blast to the past.
We'll see the stores and open-air markets of the town, and we'll go down to the riverbank to visit the Jewish Quarter, where we'll find the Micvé, a ritual bath unique to the peninsula, as well as the remains of the synagogue and the Jewish school.
We'll continue walking until we reach the Town Hall Square, where we'll discover the local products of Besalú, such as sausage, cheese, or the famous ratafía, a liqueur made from herbs.
Then we'll head to the Plaza de San Pedro, where we'll see its Romanesque church and then the church of San Vicente. Did you know that this temple once possessed one of the pieces of the Vera Cruz, where Christ was crucified?
Finally, we'll go to a viewpoint where we can get a magnificent panoramic view of Besalú. After a total of 2 hours, we'll end the tour at this spot.
