Ticket to the Monks' Chapel
Why visit the Monks' Chapel?
Uncover the rich history marked by the Order of Cluny in the village of Berzé-la-Ville. The establishment of a priory by this Catholic monastic order laid the foundations for a Romanesque chapel known as the Chapelle des Moines.
The chapel was known in the past for receiving distinguished guests. The peace in Berzé-la-Ville invited dialogue, something uncommon in the intense political life that was lived in other areas of France during the Middle Ages.
With this ticket, you have the opportunity to explore the Monks' Chapel—a testament to the 12th-century Cluniac art. Delve into the architectural and artistic marvels of the chapel, adorned with meticulous medieval paintings.
Uncovered in the late 19th century, these artworks stand as some of the most exquisite examples in the Saône-et-Loire department. The walls and vault showcase depictions of saints, apostles, and a remarkable representation of Christ in Glory—an invaluable treasure from the Romanesque era.
