Bergen's Funicular Railway - Fløibanen
One of Bergen's most popular tourist attractions is its funicular railway - better known as Fløibanen. Don't miss it!
With your ticket to the funicular railway, you'll enjoy a return ticket which will bring you from the centre of Bergen up to the top of Mount Fløyen, situated 320 meters (1049 feet) above sea level. From here, you'll enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the city.
The Fløibanen station is located in the heart of Bergen's historic centre, just a short walk from the fish market. After climbing aboard, the ride to the top of Mount Fløyen takes between 5 and 8 minutes.
As well as views of the Bergen Fjord, Mount Fløyen also features playgrounds, recreational areas and cafés, all of which can be enjoyed alongside views of the surrounding small lakes and wooded areas! There are also a number of marked hiking trails of varying lengths and levels, ranging from 1 kilometre (0.62 miles) to 11 kilometres (6.8 km).
You can stay on Mount Fløyen for as long as you like. However, please keep in mind the closing times of the funicular to organise your return to the city centre.
Schedule
The Bergen funicular operates according to the following schedule:
- October-April: from Monday to Friday between 7:30 am and 11 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am and 11 pm.
- May-September: from Monday to Friday between 7:30 am and 11 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 am and 11 pm.
The funiculars come every 15 minutes between 10 am and 7 pm. Before 10 am and after 7 pm, they come every 30 minutes. However, please note that these times are flexible and subject to change.
