Rota dos Espumantes Tour
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Bento Gonçalves at 1 pm to start this tour of the Rota dos Espumantes, where we'll learn about the history of champagne in Brazil.
It all started when the Italian immigrant Manoel Peterlongo decided to make his favourite drink from when he lived in Europe. It was 1913 and Peterlongo followed the natural fermentation process already used by the French Dom Pérignon to make the first Brazilian sparkling wine or 'espumante' as it's known.
The Rota dos Espumantes encompasses 17 wine estates, of which we'll visit three of the most famous. We'll start with the Domno winery, where you'll be able to taste their sparkling wines that have already conquered the Brazilian market and international juries.
Then we'll go to Vinícola Peterlongo, pioneer of sparkling wines in Brazil and the only one that can use the word 'champagne' on its labels. You'll be impressed by the castle-like architecture of its main building, which follows the style of the cellars of the Champagne region of France. We'll marvel at its 10,000 square metres underground cellar and enjoy a tasting. Chin Chin!
Our last stop will be at Vinícola Garibaldi, a cooperative with more than 90 years of history and more than 430 families dedicated to grape production. Here we'll get to know all the sparkling wines produced by the estate before returning to Bento Gonçalves.
We'll finish the tour at your hotel at 5 pm.
