At the selected time, we'll start the tour from Piazza Castello to start your private tour of Benevento, the city of witches that boasts centuries of history, charm and mystery.
The first stop will be the Arcos Museum, within these walls there lies myths and legends! We'll discover stories of the goddess Isis, mistress of Benevento and the city's first witch. We'll then visit the church and cloister of Santa Sofia, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This area was once occupied by the Lombard peoples.
Afterwards, we'll reach Piazza Papiniano, where the Neo-Egyptian Obelisk, dating back to the end of the first century, stands imperiously, once again reminding us of Benevento's Egypt past.
Next, we'll see the splendid Paul V Palace, home to the Janua Museum, dedicated to the janare, commonly known as witches. As we enter this enchanting building you'll be overcome by the atmosphere of pure enchantment in its themed rooms, which range from folk medicine to love, passing through local delicacies and historical memories.
Later, we'll take a break to sample some magical herbal teas and a tasting of traditional confectionery delicacies, all accompanied by the famous Strega liqueur.
In the afternoon, we'll explore Triggio, the popular medieval quarter of the old town, walk past the Murticielli cemetery and finally arrive at the Roman Theatre. Afterwards, we'll admire the Leproso Bridge, an alleged witches' sabbath, which stands over the Calore river, adjacent to the church of Santa Clementina, a place of great charm and mystery.
