Benevento Guided Tour
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet in Piazza Cardinale Pacca, the starting point of our guided tour of Benevento. From here, we'll delve into the history of the city, discovering its most emblematic monuments, a fascinating journey through time!
Our first stop will be the Arch of Trajan, the undisputed symbol of Benevento. Built between 114 and 117 AD, this impressive marble gate was erected to commemorate the inauguration of the Via Trajan, a variant of the Appian Way that facilitated the connection between Benevento and Brindisi.
Here, we'll admire its sculpted reliefs, which narrate the achievements of Emperor Trajan, a ruler so respected that even Dante placed him in the Paradise of his Divine Comedy.
Next, we'll continue our route along Corso Garibaldi until we reach the monumental church complex of St. Sophia. We'll visit its church declared a World Heritage Site, and we'll stop at its cloister, with its ornate columns, and in the square where its bell tower stands.
Our next stop will be at the Rocca dei Rettori, also known as the Castle of Benevento or Manfredi. This fortress has witnessed the most important historical events of the city.
Finally, we'll say goodbye in the center of Benevento after 3 hours of sightseeing.
