Discover the historical and cultural importance of the capital of Minas Gerais on this tour of Belo Horizonte, one of Brazil's top tourist destinations - a must!
Belo Horizonte Tour
Between 8:15 and 9 am we'll pick you up at your hotel in Belo Horizonte and start touring the beautiful capital of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais.
First we will head to Lagoa da Pampulha. Here, designed by the prestigious Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, we'll see the avant-garde design of the Casa do Baile and the Museum of Modern Art. We'll also see the exterior of the Mineirão football stadium and the Mineirinho gymnasium.
We'll continue our tour of Belo Horizonte at Praça da Liberdade. On this large esplanade we'll see the seat of the government of Minas Gerais and the modern building of the Mineralogy Museum. After appreciating the details of its architecture, we'll cross Savassi Square to go to Governor Israel Pinheiro Square. Did you know that it is better known as Pope's Square? The reason is due to the 1980 mass officiated by John Paul II in this very place.
On our way back to the centre of Belo Horizonte we'll pass one of the city's great boulevards. This is Avenida Afonso Pena, where we'll see outstanding buildings such as the City Hall, the Palace of the Arts and the Conservatory of Music.
Finally, at 12:30 pm we'll conclude the tour at the Central Market of Belo Horizonte, which dates back to 1929. You can stay on your own to visit this popular market place or, if you prefer, we can take you back to your hotel, where you're expected to arrive at 1 pm.
