Day Trip to Altun Ha + Tubing in Caves Branch
Day Trip Details
After picking you up from the pickup point at the designated time, we'll leave behind Belize City to explore the archeological site of Altun Ha. Once we arrive, we'll visit one of the most important Mayan cities in the country, where you'll be transported back to the Prehispanic period.
We'll explore the ruins of the pyramids while admiring the strategically stacked rocks, which is their main feature, as their name in the Yucatecan Mayan language means "stone pond." We'll then discuss this small settlement and the battles that have taken place at this site, which dates back to the 3rd century.
Once we finish visiting Altun Ha, we'll continue our road trip, where we'll pause for 45 minutes at a local restaurant to enjoy a delicious Belizean lunch. After lunch, we'll arrive at Caves Branch, a river that flows to a complex of limestone caves. Are you ready for this tubing adventure?
Upon arrival, we'll go on a hike through the jungle for approximately 45 minutes until we reach the beginning of the river. Here, we'll board the tubes known as donuts to tube down the river to the caves. After this 1.5-hour journey, you'll visit the caves, where you'll admire fascinating rock formations.
Lastly, after this 7-hour day trip, we'll say goodbye and drop you off at your hotel.
