Are you ready to explore the ancient history of Lebanon, starting in Beirut and heading to its surrounding towns? With this tour of Byblos, Batron and the Nabu museum, you'll be blown away by the country's incredible history.
Byblos, Batroun and Nabu Museum Day Trip
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Beirut starting from 8:30 am, from there we'll start our tour. We'll head to the Nabu Museum located in Chekka, an hour's drive away, which offers an exceptional collection of artifacts from the Bronze and Iron Age and contemporary artworks from Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, and the region.
We'll have a walking tour of the charming coastal town of Batroun, which was a flourishing city and port in Phoenician times (3000 - 64 BC). Here we'll visit the Batroun harbour, and Batroun souk. Did you know that Batroun was likely to be the ‘Batruna’ mentioned in the 14 BC Tal el-Amarna tablets of Egypt? We'll also get to visit the 225m high Phoenician wall sculpted into the nearby beach rocks, more than 2,000 years ago, and that still stands guard over the city.
We'll then go and have some delicious food in a traditional Lebanese restaurant, where we'll be able to try some of Lebanon's gastronomy and recharge our batteries for the next stop on the tour!
After lunch, we'll head to Byblos, a mix of sophistication and tradition. Byblos is a contender for the title of oldest continuously inhabited city. Next, you'll visit the castle and then we'll have some free time, so you can take a stroll through the medieval quarter of the city and explore the old souks (markets), the medieval ramparts, and several beautiful old churches.
Take a stroll through the 19th-century souk where a showcase of sandstone arches and vaults is on display, to the 100-year old Saint Stephan Cathedral, a masterpiece of roman-byzantine architecture, next Lady of the Sea Chapel (Saydetel-Bahr), to the old Phoenician fort damaged by the powerful earthquake of July 551, the remains of the ancient Roman theater's 11 tiers and last but not least, the Roman stadium sculpted in the rocks of MrahEl Cheikh.
After a packed day of exploring, we'll head back to Beirut for 5:30 pm and drop you off at your hotel.
