The famous French archaeologist Théodore Reinach was a lover of Greek culture. His travels to Greece, and numerous excavation projects in the area, gradually captured his interest in the art and architecture of the birthplace of democracy. At the end of his professional career, he retired to the beautiful village of Beaulieu-sur-Mer on the Côte d'Azur near Nice. There, he commissioned a house to be built, which would pay homage to the Classical Greece he loved so much. This is how the spectacular Villa Kerylos was born.
Your ticket for Villa Kerylos will grant you access to this majestic house situated on the edge of the Mediterranean coast. Both the furniture and the interior and exterior design of the house, are inspired by the art of Ancient Greece. In fact, this beautiful building is a replica of the ancient Greek residences, complete with a porter's lodge, a central patio and portico, a 'triklinion' dining room, and a library.
The Villa Kerylos also houses a gallery of antiques, where you'll encounter several life-size sculptures which are models of classic works of Greek art such as the Apollo Belvedere, the Discobolus of Myron, and the Venus de Milo, among others. These statues fit in perfectly with the decorative and architectural style that permeates the entire house.
You cannot leave Villa Kerylos without also visiting other amazing rooms such as the Andron (the most elegant part of the whole house which was reserved for men only), and the Oikos, which was the space reserved for family gatherings. Another notable room is Reinach's old sleeping quarters. This bedroom takes its influence from Erotes, and the bed is a copy of one exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Naples.
