French Basque Country: Bayonne Food Tour
Meet us at the central Place de la Liberté at the indicated time, and we'll set off on our food tour through the French Basque city of Bayonne!
After a brief introduction, we'll take a stroll through one of French Basque Country's most beautiful cities, whose traditional gastronomy is sure to be a treat for your palette. We'll go to the Les Halles Market to try different fish and seafood products while enjoying a glass of wine. On our way to the market, we'll also pass by the impressive St. Mary Cathedral.
Our next stop will be at the oldest trinquets (Basque ball courts) in France. This sports installation includes a restaurant where we'll stop to sample a selection of local tapas and cured meats with a glass of wine. As we dine and indulge, we'll discuss the ins and outs of this traditional game that remains popular today.
Afterward, we'll head to a traditional Basque cider house to continue our culinary adventure. Here, we'll enjoy a taste of goat's cheese paired with quince jam while sipping a glass of cider. The traditional Basque cider, called Sagarnoa, will be a special treat as we'll pour it ourselves directly from the barrel!
Then, we'll head to one of Bayonne's best bakeries, where we'll enjoy a traditional Basque cake as our final stop. While at the bakery, located in the city's historic center, we'll polish off the tour with a freshly roasted espresso; a perfect match to our cake.
The rich aroma and flavor of the coffee, combined with the sweet and savory notes of the cake, will be the perfect high note to end our 3.5-hour food tour through Bayonne.
