Normandy Landing Beaches D-Day Tour
North Coast of France, 6 June 1944. D-Day, H-Hour. Dwight Eisenhower was clear: "Your task will not be easy. Your enemy is well-trained, well-equipped and battle-hardened. He will fight ruthlessly". We'll depart from Place Québec in Bayeux to find out about the scenes that transpired during the Normandy Landings.
The first stop will be the Norman village of Sainte-Mère-Eglise, where the American paratroopers landed. Then we'll go to Utah Beach, the code name for one of the sandy beaches where the soldiers sent by the Washington government landed. These troops also carried out their military offensives on the cliffs of the Pointe du Hoc, from where we'll enjoy excellent views of the beaches of the Normandy Landings.
After 1 hour of free time for lunch in the area, we'll move on to another of the most famous beaches of the Landing: Omaha Beach. Here we'll learn how the amphibious vehicles gained access from the sea. The Nazi troops were slow to react, triggering one of the key episodes of World War II. We'll also remember some scenes from the film Saving Private Ryan, based on this historic event.
The last stop will be in the village of Colleville-sur-Mer, where the Normandy American Cemetery is located. There you'll have 45 minutes of free time to visit the cemetery and its Visitor Centre, which pays tribute to the soldiers who perished during the bloody battle of Normandy.
Finally, you'll return to the starting point in Bayeux, where you'll arrive 8 hours after the start of the tour.
