Higüey & Sugar Cane Fields Safari

  • 2 reviews | 48 travellers
With this one I have already come 4 times to the Dominican Republic and without exaggeration this excursion is without a doubt one of the best. You visit non-touristy and very interesting places, the food is great and in an unbeatable place, but the best of all without a doubt is Marina and her photographer Manuel, they make you feel great from the first moment, as if you were taking an excursion with friends from all over the world. life. Without a doubt the next time we return, which we will return, we will contact her.

Safari Details

At the designated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel. We'll hop on a safari truck and head to the city of Higüey, which will take around 40 minutes.

Once we've arrived, we'll start exploring the traditional market of this town, which is one of the most colourful in the Dominican Republic. We'll spend 45 minutes strolling around fruit, vegetable and meat stalls before visiting a cigar factory to learn all about how this product is made.

Next, we'll hop back into our vehicle and continue our safari through the sugar cane plantations of Bayahibe. We'll discuss the different uses of this plant and see how people live in the settlements that lie around the sugar cane plantations. In addition, we'll discover how the trapiche system was developed. This fascinating system transforms sugar cane into delicious Dominican rum.

We'll then venture deep into the Dominican jungle and visit a typical ranch to share a delicious lunch next to the river. While we're here, we'll fuel up with cocoa, manioc, tropical fruits and even Dominican salami. You'll also have a drink included, which will be a choice between a soft drink, rum or water.

Before heading back to La Romana, we'll take a ride in a small boat along the river among the lush greenery. You can also take a refreshing dip in this river to cool off.

Our day trip will end when we drop you back at your hotel, after a total of 8.5 hours.
