Hongos de Tocota Private Trip
Hongos de Tocota Private Trip
At 10 am, we will depart from your hotel in Barreal and travel by jeep to the surroundings of the Tocota River, nestled between the foothills of the Sierra del Tontal and the Andes.
In this beautiful corner of the Argentine province of San Juan we will visit a unique location: the Hongos de Tocota (Tocota Mushrooms) rock formations. These huge sandstone rocks, carve over time by erosion, resemble giant mushrooms. Most of them are between 30 and 50 feet tall!
During the route through the Barreal-Rodeo depression, we will see different forms of these magical rock mushrooms. Standing next to these colossal stones, you will feel tiny in comparison. While you take a selfie with them, you will hear about the natural process that shaped these unique structures over time.
We will then take a break for a delicious country lunch that will include several regional specialties. Once we have recovered our strength, we will return to Barreal. Along the way, we will stop for a light snack in the open air, whilst enjoying more wonderful Andean landscapes of San Juan.
Finally, we will arrive back at your hotel at 7 pm.
