Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet at Avinguda de Gaudi 2 to start this free tour of the Sagrada Familia's exterior. This tour will lead us around the exterior of Barcelona's most iconic temple, appreciating it from all angles and understanding its religious significance, as well as its unique architecture and techniques used by its creator, Antonio Gaudí.
We'll start our tour in front of The Nativity façade, where Gaudí expressed his love for nature and for the Sagrada Familia. We'll reveal the significance of all the sculptures. Afterwards, we'll continue to The Passion Façade, a representation of Jesus Christ's moment of greatest suffering. It's very different from the rest of the building.
Fun fact! Although this temple is attributed to Gaudí, the basilica was actually the idea of Josep Maria Bocabella, founder of the Spiritual Association of Devotees of St John. Moreover, it was Francisco de Paula del Villar who was commissioned to design the church in the neo-Gothic style. In 1883, the Catalan architect took over and radically changed the initial plan.
During the guided tour, we'll talk about Gaudí's life and how his faith influenced his work. We'll also tell you why this construction is taking so long and whether it's continuing according to the architect's plans. Do you know which part of the church is unfinished? It's the Glory Façade, which represents the Glory of Christ. In fact, it's considered the largest and most ambitious of all.
Finally, we'll say our goodbyes after 1.5 hours of touring the Sagrada Familia's surroundings.
