Montserrat Monastery & Hiking Tour
Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet at 117 Calle Roger de Llúria and, before setting off, we'll go on a panoramic bus tour of the famous Passeig de Gràcia & we'll see the Pedralbes Royal Palace.
We'll then take a 1-hour bus journey to the mountainside of the tallest and most famous rocky sierra in Catalunya: Montserrat Mountain. Literally meaning serrated in Catalan, and standing 1,236 meters above sea level, its peaks are covered in sharp-looking stones.
We'll also head to the Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey and discover the details of this beautiful 10th-century Romanesque building. The Benedictine abbey houses the unique relic of Our Lady of Montserrat, patron saint of Catalonia.
Once you get to the feet of the impressive mountain, you'll head up to the Montserrat Natural Park via the Sant Joan funicular. Enjoy the magnificent panoramic view of Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey hanging off the razor-sharp peaks as you make your way up. You'll then get to explore the stunning scenery of the park up close, as you hike up the slope (around an hour's trek) to reach the summit of Montserrat. Admire the bird's eye view of Barcelona beneath your feet!
To replenish some of our energy, we'll enjoy a delicious tasting of coca de Montserrat, a typical specialty with a simple, spongy dough. After this sweet treat, you'll have free time to continue exploring on your own before heading back to the starting point.
Then, we'll make our way down to Gran Vía de Carlos III, 100, where we'll arrive after a total of 5.5 hours.
Can we see the Escolania de Montserrat Choir?
The famous Escolania de Montserrat, the oldest boys' choir in Europe, performs from Monday to Friday.
