    We had a wonderful experience visiting Montserrat despite the cloudy weather and light rain. The views were still beautiful, and the rack railway train ride added a special touch to the journey. Our guide was excellent—informative, organized, and made the whole trip enjoyable. A memorable day and definitely worth it!

Montserrat Abbey, located at the top of the mountain of the same name, is one of Catalonia's most iconic landmarks.

A little bit of history

Founded in the 11th century, Montserrat Abbey has served as a point of pilgrimage for over a thousand years, largely to visit the Black Madonna, who today is seen as a symbol and focal point of Catalan identity.

In spite of fires, serving as the scene of political protests and other difficulties, the abbey is incredibly well preserved and is a valued site of cultural heritage in the region and indeed the country.

What to see

As well as admiring the natural surroundings, you can explore the basilica, which was completely rebuilt after the War of Independence. The Montserrat Museum is also worth a visit, which houses works by El Greco, Caravaggio and others!
