Free Inquisition Tour of Barcelona
Free Tour Details
At the designated time, we'll meet at Plaza de Cataluña and kick off this free tour to uncover one of the most gruesome chapters of Barcelona's past. Do you know what life in the city was like during the Inquisition? Do you dare venture back in time to learn about its history? Let's begin!
Once we've all arrived, we'll venture into the Catalan capital's dark past in search of some of the most turbulent stories from the Inquisition era, a historical period characterised by witch hunts and severe punishments for those who did not follow the faith.
The free tour will then take us through the streets of Barcelona's Gothic Quarter, which witnessed sentencings, arrests, and tortures instigated by those who wanted to eradicate all the mystical practices taking place in the city. Have you heard the story of the Ira del Rey (The King's Anger)? How about the Brujas de los Pirineos (the Witches of the Pyrenees)? They're bound to leave their mark on you!
Throughout our route, we'll pass iconic spots such as the Plaza de San Felipe Neri, the Church of Santa Anna, the Plaza de la Catedral, the Casa de l'Arcediano, and the Arc de Sant Ramon del Call, where some of the most macabre practices of the Inquisition took place. It'll be a spine-chilling journey into the past!
After a total of 2 hours, we'll say our goodbyes at Plaza del Rey.
