Tungurahua Volcano 2-Day Hiking Excursion
Day 1
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Baños de Agua Santa 8:30 am. Before we hit the road, we'll give you a brief introduction about safety and the equipment we'll use for the ascent. Then, we'll set off towards the Tungurahua volcano.
Upon arrival, we'll embark on a 3-hour hiking route to the Garganta de Fuego refuge, located at an altitude of 12,634 feet (3,851 meters). At the lodge, we'll have some soup, a meat dish and some juice. In the afternoon, we'll explore the surroundings and prepare for the next climb.
Later, we'll have a delicious dinner consisting of a meat or chicken dish and juice, and then we'll rest for the next day.
Day 2
Around 1 am, we'll wake up and recharge our batteries with some coffee, bread and fruit. We'll need strength for the final ascent! Over the course of the next six hours, we'll take on a hiking route to the summit of Mama Tungurahua. Did you know that this stratovolcano is permanently active? From the heights, you'll be mesmerized by the views of the sunrise over the Andes.
Afterward, we'll descend to the refuge and, from there, we'll make our way down to the parking lot. There, we'll take the minibus back to Baños de Agua Santa, where we'll arrive at 2 pm.
