Experience authentic daily life in Bangkok by visiting two unique local markets: explore the floating stalls of Damnoen Saduak and discover the train track shopping strip of Railway Market.
Tour Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet at Swensen's Khao San, located at 2 Thanon Tanao in Bangkok. From there, we'll leave Bangkok behind and head to the small town of Mae Klong, home to one of the Bangkok area's most unique sights: the railway market.
After a 1.5 hour drive, we'll arrive at the railway market. This surreal shopping experience is carefully orchestrated around the train schedules; vendors set up their stalls right on the edge of the tracks, some even on the tracks themselves, selling fresh produce, handmade fabrics, and more. Like clockwork, when a train approaches, sellers and shoppers alike move themselves and their belongings aside before resuming business as usual as soon as it leaves—you have to see it to believe it!
Having enjoyed this incredible taste of Bangkok life, and hopefully sampled some local delicacies too, we'll set back off on our route. We'll make our way to the Thai province of Ratchaburi to visit the floating market of Damnoean Saduak, one of the most famous markets in Thailand. Did you know that this market has been an active place for locals for over 150 years?
Here, we'll hop onto a typical paddle boat and sail along the canals, admiring the market as we go. We'll see how locals buy and sell everything from fruit, snacks and freshly prepared food, directly from boat to boat.
Next, you'll have some free time to stroll along the town's narrow streets, sample local delicacies and observe people's lifestyles. Be sure to taste some of the local coconut ice cream—you won't regret it!
Finally, we'll meet back up and return to the starting point in Bangkok, where we'll end the experience after a total of 7 hours.
