On this day trip from Bangkok, we'll visit Damnoen Saduak, Thailand's most famous floating market. We'll also see the iconic bridge on the River Kwai and you'll have the option to complete the journey with a ride on the Death Railway or a visit to an elephant sanctuary.
Day Trip Options
When booking, you'll have the choice of one of the following options. Both are 8 hours long and include pickup at the designated time from Hotel Century Park, transport, an English-speaking guide, and lunch.
Floating Market, River Kwai + Death Railway
We'll make our way to the west of Bangkok and, after a 1.5-hour journey, we'll reach the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, the most famous one in Thailand.
Once we reach this special spot, we'll go on a boat ride through Damnoen Saduak. Along this 30-minute ride, we'll see various stalls selling vegetables, exotic fruit spices, and other local products.
After visiting the market, we'll continue the day trip by driving to the municipality of Kanchanaburi, which features the emblematic bridge on the River Kwai. This bridge became famous because of the 1957 film of the same name, based on events from World War II when the Japanese forced local prisoners to build a route between Thailand and Burma—the so-called Death Railway. Part of the train's journey passed precisely over the River Kwai.
We'll then have a traditional Thai lunch in the bridge's surroundings. After lunch, we'll visit the JEATH War Museum, where we'll learn about the history of the construction of the Death Railway between 1942 and 1943.
Once the museum visit has come to an end, we'll go to ThamKra Sae Station, where we'll travel on this significant railway. Onboard a train, we'll go on a 1.5-hour journey along the River Kwai and learn interesting facts about the train. Our train trip will end at Tha Kilen Station, where a vehicle will be waiting for us to take us back to the starting point in Bangkok.
Floating Market, River Kwai + Elephant Sanctuary
If you choose this option, we'll do the same guided tour through the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market described in the previous option.
Afterwards, we'll enjoy a lunch close to the bridge on the River Kwai. Please note that we'll see the bridge but won't visit the JEATH War Museum.
Once we've finished lunch, we'll head over to an elephant sanctuary in the area, where you'll be able to bathe these majestic animals and relax on a bamboo raft ride. This ride which will take place in the sanctuary's outskirts, will be 30 minutes long.
After this ride, we'll return to the initial meeting point in Bangkok.
