Bamberg Free Tour

At 11 am, we'll meet at the Obstmarkt square in the heart of Bamberg's historic centre. We'll start walking through the streets of this beautiful Bavarian city to get to know its main monuments and review its many historical curiosities.

The tour will begin by crossing the Regnitz river to admire the old town hall. Above the watercourse stands a building of medieval origin that surprises its visitors with its beautiful baroque frescoes. It's said that its construction was a symbol of the triumph of the town over the power of the Church. We'll reveal this exciting story!

We'll talk about the time of the witch hunts and the trials held against alleged witches in the 17th century. It's estimated that up to 1000 women were executed in Bamberg - you'll get goosebumps!

Next, we'll go to the Cathedral, the most visited building in Bamberg. The temple, more than 1000 years old, is the home of the Bamberg rider. King Stephan of Hungary, Constantine the Great or even one of the Three Wise Men are the theories circulating about the identity of this mysterious equestrian sculpture.

Near the cathedral, we'll see the Old Residence and the New Residence of the Bishops, huge palaces that date back to the 16th and 17th centuries. Afterwards, we'll visit the little Venice of Bamberg, one of the most picturesque districts of the city.

Then we'll arrive at the historical tavern Schlenkerla. While we admire its façade we'll talk about its star product, the smoked beer. Did you know that its taste reminds of ham?

The tour will end at 1:30 pm outside the tavern.
