Baeza Cathedral Guided Tour
Baeza Cathedral Guided Tour
Our guided tour of Baeza Cathedral will start at the Puerta de la Luna. First we'll appreciate the exterior architecture of this masterpiece of European Renaissance architecture. The design by Andrés de Vandelvira gives the monument a very special charm, full of nuances that we'll learn about during the visit.
Once we have observed the exterior appearance of the cathedral, we'll enter its interior. Inside the cathedral, its beautiful chapels stand out. Many of them were ordered to be built by noble families from Baeza, whose heritage also contributed to the adornment of the rest of the city, which is currently one of the 15 Spanish cities declared World Heritage Sites. The so-called Capilla Dorada (Golden Chapel) is worth seeing, and do you know why its altarpiece is one of the city's greatest artistic treasures?
We'll continue our tour of the interior of the church with a visit to the Cathedral Museum. Its exhibition of reliquaries, processional books and other objects of sacred art will give us a better understanding of the historical and artistic evolution of the cathedral over the centuries. The most important piece in the collection is the 'processional monstrance' of Baeza Cathedral. This gold and silver metalwork was made to both protect and display the Blessed Sacrament during processions. In fact, the piece is among the three most important works of rococo goldsmithing in Spain.
At the end of the guided tour, which lasts approximately 45 minutes, you can visit the parts of the cathedral that you liked best on your own.
