Bacalar Lagoon Boat Trip
Bacalar Lagoon Boat Trip
We'll meet at the selected time at Rancho Encantado Hotel dock., where we'll board a boat for a two-hour ride on the Bacalar Lagoon, also known as the 'Lagoon of Seven Colors.'
This large expanse of turquoise waters is formed by a series of dreamy cenotes that vary in color depending on their depth. First, we'll cruise through the Cocalitos cenote to see its thousand-year-old stromatolites, mineral formations that are found in very few places in the world.
Next, we'll head to the La Bruja cenote, a dark blue lagoon spanning 130 meters in diameter that hides a mystical Maya legend. We'll tell you all about it on the tour! Afterward, we'll continue our boat ride through the Esmeralda cenote, admiring its beautiful crystalline waters.
During the trip, we'll also circle around Isla de los Pájaros (Birds Island) to check out the hawks, larks, parrots, and owls that live there. Lastly, we'll stop at the Pirates' Channel, a point that connects the Bacalar Lagoon with the Chetumal Bay, named for being one of the points from which pirates would attack in the past.
At the end of the boat trip, we'll head back to the starting point, concluding the experience after two hours.
