Peruvian History Tour
Peruvian History Tour
At 9:30 am, we'll meet in the Plaza Mayor square and set off on an hour and half's journey north to the Wari Archaeological Complex. There we'll find the remains of the first Andean civilization that developed between the 7th and 13th centuries. We'll walk through the Site Museum and marvel at the fascinating archaeological pieces it exhibits. What's more, we'll visit the Templo Mayor, what remains of the ancient city of Wari as well as the underground tunnels that served as tombs.
Next we'll set off for Quinua, a town in the department of Ayacucho that is famous for its crafts and pottery tradition. You'll see the ancient Wari culture reflected in figures of musicians, llamas and roosters.
Not far from Quinua is the Pampas de Ayacucho Historic Sanctuary. This is where the Battle of Ayacucho took place, which brought about the end of the Spanish rule in Latin America. If you want you can go for a horse ride around the area for an unforgettable experience!
We'll return to Ayacucho for 2:30 pm.
