Free Legends Tour of Avila
Free Legends Tour of Avila
When the evening falls on the skies of Castile, the walls of Ávila seem to protect fascinating legends, impregnable secrets sheltered by its thick walls. To discover these enigmas we'll meet up at the scheduled time in front of the Puerta del Alcázar, located in the central Plaza de Santa Teresa de Jesús.
We'll begin this free tour of Avila by walking down the Calle de la Cruz Vieja, better known as the Street of Life and Death. After revealing its legend, we'll go to the portico of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour to meet the strange stone beings that guard this iconic temple, the first Gothic cathedral in Spain.
Following the tour through the narrow streets of Ávila, one of the 15 Spanish cities declared World Heritage, we'll reach the elegant facade of the Basilica of San Vicente. The construction of this Romanesque jewel also has a very strong link with a certain legend, which you'll hear all about during the tour.
We'll then pass through other parts of the city such as the Plaza del Ayuntamiento square until we stop in front of the Puerta del Rastro, the scene of an eternal love story. Very close by is the birthplace of Saint Teresa of Jesus, which we stop in front of to hear some of the secrets of this mystical figure.
We'll make the next stop on another of the pontoons in the wall of Ávila: the Gate of Misfortune. You'll learn about the story that gave this landmark its name. Then, after two hours, we'll finish this amazing free tour on the picturesque Paseo de El Rastro.
