Discover the landmarks in Athens lit up on this night walking tour around Monastiraki Square, one of the most lively and vibrant areas in the city.
Description
The evening tour of Athens will start at the designated time at the entrance to Hotel the Dolli. From here, we'll kick off our night tour of Plaka y Monastiraki.
Right in the center of the city we'll find two historic temples: the Orthodox Church of St. Mary Pantanassa and the Tzistarakis Mosque. We'll admire the illumination of these two religious buildings while learning about their history. One of them harbors a terrible curse - let's find out which!
Behind the mosque lie the remains of the ancient library of Hadrian, the second Hispanic emperor in history. Next to this important archaeological site, we'll enjoy beautiful views of the Acropolis of Athens. The illumination of its main monuments (the Parthenon, the Propylaea, and the Erechtheion, among others) allows us to admire these remnants of ancient times in different parts of the Greek capital.
Near the site of the Hadrianic library, we'll find the Cathedral of the Annunciation of St. Mary. This orthodox church is one of the main temples of Plaka, one of the most historic neighborhoods in the old town of Athens. In this area, we'll also notice various signs of the imperial era such as Hadrian's Arch, which dates back to the 2nd century AD.
After a total of 2.5 hours, we'll end our night tour of Athens by returning to the starting point.
