History

The Philae Temple, built in the 7th or 6th century BC in dedication to the goddess Isis, stood as one of the final temples of ancient Egyptian religion, closing in the 530s AD as Christianity became the predominant religion.

Did you know...

For centuries, the Philae Temple stood on the island of Philae. As the island was to be submerged by the construction of the Aswan Low Dam, the temple was moved to Agilkia Island in the 1960s.
