Get to know the Jesuit Missions of Santísima Trinidad del Paraná and Jesús de Tavarangüé with this trip from Asunción.
Jesuit Missions Excursion
At 12 am we'll pick you up from your hotel in Asunción to begin the journey to the Jesuit Missions of Trinidad and Jesús de Tavarangue. You'll learn all about the history of these Guaraní villages founded in the 17th century.
We'll board a comfortable private vehicle and make a six-and-a-half-hour drive to the reductions. On the way, we'll observe Paraguay's tropical scenery and stop for breakfast to recharge our batteries.
We'll arrive at the Jesuit Missions of Santísima Trinidad del Paraná, the largest and best-preserved Guaraní reduction in the country. We'll be able to see the structure of the village, which has a main square and the largest temple built among the Jesuit reductions. For all these reasons, it was declared a World Heritage Site in 1993.
We'll continue our excursion to the missions of Jesús de Tavarangüé, in Itapúa. Did you know that one of the largest churches of the time was begun in this reduction? However, this work was not completed due to the expulsion of the Jesuits in 1768 by Charles III of Spain.
After visiting these towns, we'll go to the city of Encarnación for a buffet lunch or a full menu at the Hotel Papillón de Bella Vista. During the afternoon you'll have free time to stroll along the Costanera, do some shopping in the city and relax on the San José beach.
At 6 pm, we'll finish the excursion and head back to Asunción, where you'll be dropped off back at your hotel at 11 pm.
