Asuncion and Jesuit Missions 6 Day Tour
Day 1: Asunción
We'll be waiting for you upon your arrival at Asuncion airport before taking you to your hotel where you can rest. In the afternoon, we'll head out to explore the capital of Paraguay. We'll stroll through its streets and learn all about its past, from colonisation through to the present day. Before returning to the hotel, we'll browse the Pettirossi market, enjoying the smells and colours of its stalls.
Day 2: Gold Circuit
After a delicious breakfast, we'll tour the surroundings of the capital, following a route known as the Gold Circuit. We'll visit the Yaguaron Church and the historic town of Caacupé, one of the principal pilgrimage sites in the country. Then, we'll visit the charming city of San Bernardino and admire the idyllic turquoise waters of Lake Ycaparacaí. We'll also discover Paraguay's artisanry while visiting the last 2 stops of the day: Aregua is home to a ceramic and textile tradition, and Luque is a centre of filigree metalwork.
Afterwards, we'll return to Asunción so that you can get yourself some dinner and enjoy a well-deserved rest.
Day 3: Jesuit Missions
Rise and shine! We'll get up early and enjoy a filling breakfast. Then, we'll hit the road, heading south from the city. On this day, we'll discover the famous Jesuit Missions, heading first to San Ignacio. Founded in 1609, its purpose was to evangelize the Guarani people. Strolling through the ruins of this historic city, we'll learn all about how these settlements functioned and how the Jesuits arrived in this part of the world.
After this fascinating guided tour, we'll head to Encarnación, where we'll spend the night on the banks of the beautiful Paraná River.
Day 4: Jesuit Missions
On this day of the tour, we'll continue delving into the fascinating history of the Jesuit Missions. After breakfast, we'll visit 7 more of the evangelical villages which were established in Paraguay. The archaeological remains of these villages have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, we'll find out why. We'll also visit one of the last missions to be founded: The Holy Trinity of the Paraná. Here, we'll reveal the fate that befell the inhabitants of these settlements in the 2nd half of the 18th century.
Leaving the Jesuit Missions behind, we'll visit a Yerba Mate Factory. We'll bring our day to an end in the beautiful city of Ciudad del Este, where you'll enjoy a well-earned meal and a rest in the hotel.
Day 5: Itaipú
After enjoying a delicious breakfast, we'll start a journey deep into the nature of Paraguay by heading to the Saltos del Monday Municipal Park, a natural wonder with a surface area of 7 hectares!
Here, we'll enjoy 3 cascading waterfalls, each 40 metres (131 feet) high, a true spectacle of nature! To refuel, you'll have some free time to get a delicious typical lunch in the Salto del Monday viewpoint's restaurant.
Our next stop will be the Itaipu Hydroelectric Dam, the second largest in the world. We'll walk around it to admire this colossal work and, if you feel like it, we can take the opportunity to go shopping in the area.
The day will end in Asunción, where you can enjoy your last night in Paraguay.
Day 6: Asunción
After breakfast, pack your luggage. We'll take you to the airport with plenty of time to catch your flight. There, we'll conclude our 6-day tour and say goodbye.
