Mount Meru 5 Day Trek

Day 1

We'll meet at the airport, where a guide will be waiting to take you to the hotel in Arusha. Once we're settled in, we'll meet the expert trekking guides to learn about the main safety guidelines during the ascent.  

Afterwards, we'll have dinner at the hotel and you'll be able to rest until the next day when our adventure in Mount Meru will begin.

Day 2

After having breakfast and preparing our trekking equipment, we'll set out for Momela Gate, the entrance to Mount Meru Natural Park. From this point on, a forest ranger who will escort us so that we can safely enjoy the presence of wild animals along the way.

As we continue along the ten kilometre (6 miles) route, we'll have the opportunity to see elephants, zebras, giraffes, monkeys and antelopes in their natural habitat - a surely unforgettable memory! After about six hours of trekking, we'll rest at the Miriakamba Hut camp, have dinner and spend the night.

Day 3

On the second day of the ascent, we'll face the steepest climb of the route and travel eight kilometres (5 miles) along the peak of Mount Meru.  Here, we'll enjoy privileged views of the mountain's crater. The day will be spent trekking in ashy surroundings, characteristic of this inactive volcano.

We'll then have a hot meal at the Saddle Hut. If you wish, we can take a short hike to the top of Little Meru peak to enjoy the views of the mountain at sunset. We'll have dinner at the camp and rest until the next day.

Day 4

On the third day of the route, we'll reach the summit of Mount Meru. To do so, we'll trek for more than five kilometres (3 miles). Once at the top, we'll delight in the views of Kilimanjaro, and have the opportunity to appreciate the crater as well as the inner cliffs from the heights.

Before starting the descent, we'll have a meal at the Saddle Hut camp and then cover the thirteen kilometres (8 miles) of descent through arid trails. We'll spend the night and have dinner at the Meriakamba Hut camp.

Day 5

On the last day of the route, we'll finish the descent by walking through the meadows and forests of the mountainside. Before reaching the Momella pass in the late morning, we'll enjoy the wildlife of this area of Tanzania during the ten kilometre (6 miles) route.

Back at Momella Gate, we'll head to Arusha hotel for dinner and rest after a great adventure through Mount Meru.

Accommodation

For the first and final night of the trek, we'll stay at the Maura Apartments & Lodges in Arusha.
