Maasai Village of Olpopongi Day Trip
Maasai Village of Olpopongi Day Trip
At 8 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Arusha and set off for the Maasai village of Olpopongi. The drive to the manyatta, as these villages are known in the Maasai language, will take just under 1 hour 30 minutes.
Located on the western edge of Mount Kilimanjaro, this Maasai village welcomes visitors. Built entirely by the members of this tribe, the village also has some museum-like huts displaying a collection of different artefacts.
Accompanied by your guide and some of the tribe, you'll explore the village and gain an understanding of Maasai culture and customs. You'll discover how this warrior and cattle-herding society is organised, their survival methods among wild animals, the food they eat and the traditional dances they perform.
You can also go on a small walking safari where you'll learn about the main Maasai hunting techniques as well as their use of natural medicines, such as a drink made from cattle milk and blood.
The members of this community will also prepare a small tasting of traditional Maasai food for us. We'll then finish our day trip and return to your hotel in the afternoon.
