Tour to Guática & Quinchía
Tour to Guática & Quinchía
At 7 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Armenia to head north to the department of Risaralda. It'll take about 3 hours to reach Quinchía, where we'll make our first stop.
We'll visit this municipality surrounded by hills–which is why it's called Villa de los Cerros (Villa of the Hills)–and we'll stop at its archaeological museum, Tierras de Xixarca. In this institution, which is one of the most important in the region, we'll admire curious artifacts made by the Quimbaya, an indigenous people that inhabited this area until the 16th century.
Next, we'll visit a filigree workshop, where we'll see local artisans using this goldsmithing technique to make typical handicrafts. Then, we'll have a lunch of typical food of the region, which will include a main dish and a drink. After lunch, we'll head to Guática by crossing through the landscapes of northern Risaralda.
In this village settled by indigenous people in 1638, we'll learn about the silk production process, one of Guática's star products. The members of the community will show us the plants with which they feed the silkworms that will later produce this precious material. With this, the artisans elaborate the textiles by hand.
You'll have free time for shopping if you wish, before returning to Armenia and being dropped off at your hotel around 4 pm.
Tour without Lunch
If you prefer to bring your own lunch, you can select the tour option without lunch. You'll have time to have lunch on your own before the visit to Guática.
