Would you like to learn how Colombian cuisine is sweetened? If so, you'll love our Panela Tour! We'll set off from Armenia and take a fascinating journey through sugar cane plantations - perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth!
Panela Tour
At 8 am, we'll meet you at your hotel in Armenia and set off on the 1-hour 30-minute drive to an agricultural farm.
When we get there, we'll explore the sugar cane plantations from which panela is extracted. This product is a natural sweetener used in many typical Colombian desserts and drinks such as aguapanela, guarapo and chicha.
We'll learn about the production process behind panela, which involves the canes being crushed in mills called trapiches before being moulded and beaten until a solidified block of panela has been obtained. The workers at the farm will explain this process to us step by step.
After familiarising ourselves with the production of this ingredient, which has an important role in Colombian cuisine, we'll travel to a local nature park. We'll take a relaxing hike here before giving you some free time to have lunch and explore your surroundings.
You'll be dropped off back at your hotel at 4 pm.
Tour with lunch
When making your booking, you'll be able to choose the option with lunch. This lunch will include a traditional dish and a drink.
