Be amazed by the scarlet tones of the Red Lagoon, one of the most unique natural spaces in the highlands of northern Chile. On this excursion from Arica you'll also visit other smaller lakes in the area, such as the Verde and Amarilla lakes.
Red Lagoon Tour
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Arica between 5 am and 6 am and set off for one of the most amazing places in the highlands of northern Chile.
After passing through the Huara crossroads, we'll stop at the Chillaiza petroglyphs to observe these figures carved by the Incas. The route will continue to the village of Camiña, where we'll stop for a delicious breakfast.
Once we have regained our strength, we'll follow the route to the banks of the Caritaya River. There, at an altitude of 3700 metres (12139 feet), we'll see the crimson waters of the famous Red Lagoon. During the tour we'll learn about the natural causes of these scarlet pigments, which are very surprising in this type of Andean landscape.
Following the excursion around the Red Lagoon, we'll also see two other smaller high Andean lakes, the Verde and Amarilla lagoons. The fantastic yellow and green colours of these lagoons, hence their names, are caused by various microalgae, minerals and other natural elements.
We'll conclude the route at a restaurant in Camiña, where we'll have a local lunch that includes three dishes of the local gastronomy. Finally, after lunch, we'll return to your hotel in Arica, where we'll arrive at 6 pm.
