Few words can describe the beauty of the Lauca National Park. With this excursion, you'll enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Lake Chungará, located in a rich ecosystem where you'll see llamas, alpacas, vicuñas and other animals of the Andean highlands.
Lake Chungará Tour
Between 7 am and 8 am we'll pick you up at your hotel in Arica, and from there we'll depart for the Andean highlands of northern Chile to tour the Lauca National Park: a beautiful natural area that is home to the well-known Lake Chungará.
We'll first stop in the small town of Poconchile to visit the church of San Jerónimo, which dates back to the year 1605. We'll then follow the route to Chungará passing through the ravine of Los Cardones, the village of Malku and the viewpoint of Putre. There we'll enjoy incredible panoramic views of the Lauca National Park.
We'll continue the tour to the viewpoint of Chucuyo, the last stop before arriving at Lake Chungará. This Andean lake, which is located at an altitude of 4500 metres (14763 feet), is part of an ecosystem of great biodiversity. We'll walk around the lake to see various native animals such as alpacas, guanacos, vicuñas, llamas and other Andean animals.
As we'll see, Lake Chungará also attracts numerous birds of the altiplano such as Chilean flamingos, Neotropic cormorants, South American ostriches, giant taguas or coots and condors, among other species. After seeing the main types of endemic birds, we'll head to a local restaurant to recharge our batteries with a delicious three-course lunch of local cuisine.
After lunch we'll finally return to your hotel in Arica, where we'll arrive at 7 pm.
