Join us to discover two of Kefalonia's most important historical treasures on this trip to the Castle of St. George and the Monastery of Agios Gerasimos from Argostoli.
Description
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Argostoli and start our journey to the Castle of St. George and the Monastery of Agios Gerasimos. Let's go!
First of all, we'll make a short stop at the viewpoints next to the Katavothres Ferris wheel and the historic lighthouse of Argostoli. The sea views from the lighthouse are a real treat!
Afterwards, we'll head to the charming village of Kastro to discover the Castle of St. George. This fortress was built in the 12th century and completed in the mid-16th century. Did you know that it's located on a hill 320 metres (1,049 feet) above sea level?
During the visit, you'll see how the castle is divided into 2 parts with an inner courtyard in the shape of a horseshoe. Moreover, on its walls, you'll see coats of arms of Venetian rulers to whom it belonged in the 1500s.
After touring the castle, we'll visit the Monastery of Agios Gerasimos, considered one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in Kefalonia. We'll admire its hermitage and enter its 2 underground rooms, which are accessed by a narrow path.
To round off this experience, we'll visit the Vasilakis Culture boutique for an aperitif of typical products including wine, olive oil and traditional sweets. You'll love it!
After 4 hours in total, we'll end the activity at the starting point.
