The Sillar Route
The Sillar Route
We'll come and pick you up from your accommodation at 8:50 am and set out towards The Sillar Route, one of the most historic routes in Peru. We'll make our way to a viewpoint where you'll appreciate the beauty of the volcanoes that surround Arequipa, before continuing the journey.
Do you want to discover the origins of this rock? First of all, we'll make a stop at the Añashuayco Quarry, where you'll see the expert stonemasons working the rock. From here, you'll also be able to admire an impressive rocky canyon, which has a formed as a result of the rock excavations.
We'll leave the Añashuayco Quarry behind and after 30 minutes will reach the Culebrillas Gorge. This canyon has walls that are some 65 feet (20 metres) high! We'll head into the canyon and take a 20-minute walk; the perfect way to explore!
Our last stop on The Sillar Route will be to discover the petroglyphs of the canyon, mysterious figures carved in the stone whose meaning is still unknown.
After discovering this area of the country, we'll make our way back to Arequipa where the tour will come to an end at around 1 pm.
