Spend the day in touch with the culture and nature of southern Peru on our Mollendo Day Trip. You'll see where some of the protected bird species in this part of the Andean country live.
Mollendo Day Trip
At 7:40 am, we'll pick you up and set off for Mollendo, a city around 124 miles (100 kilometres) away from Arequipa. On the way, we'll pass through the port of Matarni, the most important port in southern Peru.
When we get to the capital of Islay province, we'll see the peculiar architecture that characterises the city of Mollendo. The mix of its old, colonial-style mansions and the white sandy beaches create a unique coastal landscape.
Next, we'll take a walk along Comercio Street. Here, we'll find some of the town's iconic buildings from the end of the 19th century, when the city began to take off following the arrival of the railway.
We'll continue along Mariscal Castilla Avenue, where we'll see buildings of great historic importance such as Villa Velásquez, a mansion built with pine in 1912. Another symbolic building we'll see is the Church of the Immaculate Conception, which has a striking two-towered vault.
Our next stop will be the Ratti seafront, from which we'll admire beautiful views of the beaches, the pier, the famous Mollendo water park and the old Forga Castle. Did you know that this castle has a twin on the coast of Morocco?
After exploring Mollendo, we'll stop at a local restaurant for lunch. Once we've had lunch, we'll return to Arequipa and drop you off at your hotel for around 5:30 pm.
