Love history? Then this day trip to the petroglyphs in Toro Muerto from Arequipa is the one for you. We'll explore one of the largest rock art collections in the Americas and we'll learn about the Prehispanic culture that left its mark on these ancient stones. It'll be a unique experience that will take you on a journey through time and art!
Day Trip Details
At the designated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Arequipa and make our way northeast. After 3 hours by bus, we'll arrive at the village of Corire, where you'll have about 1 hour of free time to grab yourself some breakfast.
After re-energising, we'll head over to the Toro Muerto petroglyphs and have a guided tour that will take between 2 and 3 hours.
While we explore this archaeological site, we'll reveal the secrets of the rock engravings that decorate the stones here. We'll be able to admire more than 6000 blocks of rock, with shallow markings, representing human figures, animals, and other more mysterious symbols that date back to 800 AD.
Once the tour is finished, we'll go to the Incan suspension bridge of Quiscay, which crosses the Majes River. From here, you'll enjoy impressive scenic views of the mountains and the surrounding valley. This is the perfect moment to take out your camera and capture the natural beauty of this region!
After this visit, you'll have 1 hour of free time to grab some lunch, before we make our way back to Arequipa, where we'll drop you off at your hotel after this 11-hour day trip.
