Cotahuasi Canyon 3-Day Trip

Day 1

Let's go on an adventure! We'll pick you up from your hotel at 5:30 am and head to Majes Valley, which is 2 hours away from Arequipa. On the way there, we'll stop for a breakfast that'll include coffee, juice, bread, eggs, butter and jam.

This valley is home to one of the most popular tourist destinations in the area: the Querulpa Jurassic Park. You can see real dinosaur footprints here! We'll tour the park and then head to Toro Muerto, where we'll see one of this area's most famous examples of rock art: the petroglyphs

Next, we'll stop in Chuquibamba for lunch, which will consist of meat stew, pasta and soup. After lunch, we'll set out on a 4-hour climb to the mountain pass between the Coropuna and Solimana Volcanoes. We'll then make our way down to the Cotahuasi Canyon, which is also known as the Canyon of Wonders. Did you know that it's one of the deepest canyons in the world?

After admiring this incredible natural spot, we'll head to a village in the valley to have a dinner that'll consist of soup, rice with vegetables and a hot drink. We'll then be welcomed into the home of a local family to spend the night.

Day 2

On the second day, we'll leave for Taurisma. We'll spend 30 minutes in this small village exploring its broom bush forests, hanging bridges and archaeological remains. Afterwards, we'll head to Tomepampa and go on a 3-hour hike through Andean villages such as Huaynacotas. We'll then come to the famous Luicho Thermal Baths, where you'll have 30 minutes of free time to take a dip and enjoy the water's healing properties. What better way to relax after a hike?

We'll then return to Cotahuasi to get some rest in our accommodation.

Day 3

Our final day will begin with a hike along the banks of the Cotahuasi River. We'll follow the course of the river until we come to a point where the river narrows down to a width of only 16 feet (5 metres) and jumps from a height of 491 feet (150 metres). This is the Sipia Waterfall, and we'll spend 1 hour here admiring how its water comes crashing down as we explore the surroundings. At the end of the trail we'll see Cunyac Bridge, which is popular with bungee jumpers.

When we get there, a bus will be waiting to take us back to Cotahuasi. We'll have lunch and then return to your hotel in Arequipa, where we should arrive at 8 pm.
