Colca Canyon 2 Day Trip
Colca Canyon 2 Day Trip
Day 1: Arequipa - Chivay
After picking you up from your hotel in Arequipa, we'll leave the city behind and head into the Colca Valley. For three hours, we'll pass through the Salinas & Aguada National Reserve and we'll make a stop at the Patapampa viewpoint, at over 15,800 feet above sea level (4,830 metres)!
We'll make our way past the lagoons and wetlands before reaching Chivay. This traditional village is over 11,800 feet (3,600) metres above sea level! In the afternoon, we'll visit the nearby Calera Hot Springs, where you can take a dip and enjoy the water's medicinal properties.
We'll return to Chivay and you'll have the chance to experience the most typical evening. A traditional dinner accompanied by typical dances; this is an experience you'll never forget!
Day 2: Chivay - Maca - Yanque - Arequipa
First thing in the morning, you'll be able to enjoy a delicious breakfast at the hotel in Chivay, and with your energy replenished, we'll continue exploring the Colca Valley. Our first stop will be at the famous Condor Cross. We'll spend an hour here, admiring the condors flying overhead and enjoying the incredible views of the Colca Canyon: one of the deepest canyons in the world.
We'll then hit the road back to Chivay, although we'll make two stops along the way. The first of these will be to explore the town of Maca; named as a Historic Monument of Peru. You're sure to be impressed by the church, plus you'll be welcomed by locals dressed in traditional outfits, inviting you to discover their traditions. Next, we'll stop in Yanque, a town located in the heart of the Colca Valley.
Once back in Chivay, you'll have free time to have lunch, and afterwards, we'll make our way back to Arequipa, where the tour will finish at around 5 pm.
Accommodation
When booking, you can choose between two types of accommodation:
- Hostel accommodation: you'll have a private room with a bathroom and hot water. The pre-planned accommodations are Colca Inn, Posada del Colca or similar.
- Accommodation in a three-star hotel: this type of accommodation includes a private room and bathroom, wifi and heating. The hotels are Casa Andina Colca, Colcallaqta, Pozo del Cielo, or similar.
Why not finish the tour in Puno?
When you make your booking, you can choose to finish your tour in Puno rather than Arequipa. If you pick this option, the tour will be the same, but on the second day when we leave Chivay, we'll head to Puno and not Arequipa.
On this 6-hour journey, we'll stop at Patapampa and Lagunilla to discover even more of the Colca Valley. The tour will finally come to an end in Puno at around 7 pm.
