Colca Canyon to Puno Day Trip

  • 191 reviews | 2,495 travellers
A very complete and perfect excursion to make the most of the trip throughout Peru. Many hours of travel, but it is quite pleasant thanks to the stops and activities. Food is not included, but for ten euros there is a delicious buffet with a great variety of Peruvian cuisine. We were lucky enough to see some Condors. Very friendly guides who make sure you have a great day :)

Colca Canyon to Puno Day Trip

Between 2:45 and 3:30 am we'll pick you up at your hotel in Arequipa and after a three-hour bus ride through southern Peru, we'll reach the town of Chivay. At more than 3000 metres (9800 feet) above sea level, we'll stop to enjoy a tasty breakfast of bread with butter and jam. You can also have juice and coffee or tea to start your day.

Our first stop will be the Cruz del Condor lookout point. From here you can admire the Colca Canyon in all its splendour. Did you know that it is one of the deepest in the world? We'll also see the occasional condor, as this area is perfect for the flight of this species of bird.

The route will then continue to other villages and viewpoints around the Colca Canyon such as Wayrapunko and Antahuillque. Around 11:30 am we'll go to the Chacapi Hot Springs, where you'll spend an hour enjoying its natural pools.

After this dip, we'll head back to Chivay where you'll have free time to eat something on your own. Then we'll head to Puno, our final destination.

During the journey, which takes about six hours, we'll stop to stretch our legs at the Patapampa viewpoint, from where you can admire the majesty of the Ampato and Sabancaya volcanoes. We'll also stop at the Salinas Reserve and Lagunillas, to see if we're lucky enough to get a close-up view of any of the herds of camelids or flocks of wild birds that inhabit these areas.

The tour will end in the Terminal at approximately 7:30 pm.

Pickup

Pickup is included from hotels within a radius of just under a mile (1 kilometre) from the Plaza de Armas in Arequipa. If your hotel is located outside this area, you'll need to make your way to the meeting point in the Plaza de Armas for 2:40 am.
