Private Tour of the National Shrine of Our Lady Aparecida
Private Tour of the National Shrine of Our Lady Aparecida
We'll arrange to pick you up from your hotel and head to the National Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida, the second-largest Catholic temple in the world and the largest in Brazil, only surpassed by St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.
Our private tour of the sanctuary will start at the Old Church, constructed in 1745 to house the statue of the Patron Saint of Brazil, which was discovered in the Paraíba do Sul River. Then, we'll cross the Pasarela da Fe, a walkway that links the old church with the new basilica.
In this neoclassical temple, which accommodates 30,000 people, we'll admire its sacred artwork and the 13 basilica bells. The initial 12 bells represent the apostles of Christ, whereas the last one, the largest, is devoted to the Virgin Mary.
Our visit to the sanctuary continues with a look at the Monument to Our Lady of Fatima, a stunning five-meter-high masterpiece, followed by a view of the mosaics on the north facade of the basilica. This area features a vast display of Bible stories, exquisitely decorated with prints.
After a three-hour tour, we'll wrap up our private tour of the Sanctuary of Our Lady Aparecida at the Old Church.
