Hiking Trails in Terceira
Hiking Trails in Terceira
When making your reservation, you'll have the choice of four different walking trail options. All four include pickup and drop-off at your hotel in Angra do Heroísmo and last two and a half hours.
Monte Brasil Trail
Can't choose between city and nature? Combine the two and explore both: we'll begin our route at Relvão Park and from there we'll head to the São João Baptista Fortress, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From this historic structure, we'll head onwards to visit the most beautiful spots in the charming town of Angra do Heroísmo. Finally, we'll delve into nature and discover the four peaks of Monte Brasil.
Rocha do Chambre Trail
We'll set off from Malha Grande, located in the Bioscoitos area, ready to immerse ourselves in the spectacular nature of the Azores. Our hike will take us through the Rocha do Chambre area, allowing us to learn all about the different species of flora and fauna endemic to the island. Don't forget to look out for the magnificent cedar trees as we cross over the wooden bridge!
Baías da Agualva Trail
This walking trail begins near Pico dos Loiros. As we follow the route, which will take us past historic buildings and stone walls used to protect the vines, we'll discover the winemaking traditions of Terceira. Continuing onwards, we'll make a stop at one of the most impressive places on the trail: the Bay of Pombas. You'll be captivated by the rugged cliffs leading down to the ocean below. During our trek, we'll have the opportunity to enjoy some birdwatching, as well as visiting Ponta do Misterio and admiring the wild beauty of Baias da Agualva.
San Sebastián Fortresses Trail
Our hike will begin on the road to Punta de las Contendas, where we'll get to see the lighthouse of the same name. Explore the ancient fortresses built to defend the isle, like the Fort of Greta, the Forte de Santa Catarina das Mós and the Fort of Bom Jesus. Our walking tour will then come to an end in the main square of the town of San Sebastian.
