Palia Stata Hiking Excursion
At the indicated time, we'll meet in front of the parking lot of Vigla Hotel to head towards the bay of Aegiali. From this place, we'll start our hiking tour around Amorgos, are you ready to discover all the charms that this island of the Cyclades has in store for us?
We'll start our hike along the Palia Strata trail, a path located at an altitude of 400 meters (1,312 ft) that runs along part of the east coast of Amorgos. Along about 10 km (6.2 miles), we'll make different stops to enjoy the landscapes of the island and, of course, the fantastic views of the Aegean Sea.
Our first stop will be in Asfontilitis, an abandoned rural settlement full of wells and a multitude of white houses. There we'll be able to contemplate the exterior of Aghios Nikolaos, a charming orthodox church located in the countryside of Asfontilitis.
Next, we'll visit Kapsala, an area of caves where the monks of the island used to live. Finally, we'll stop at the iconic Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa, the second oldest monastery in all of Greece - the panoramic views from the cliff where it stands are spectacular!
The hiking tour will end in Chora, the capital of Amorgos, where we'll take a break at a traditional restaurant where you can buy some food if you wish.
Then, we'll head back to the meeting point, arriving after 8-8.5 hours of excursion.
