The eruption of Mount Vesuvius caused devastation to the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. On this day trip, we'll discover what these cities were once like.
Description
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up at your meeting point and drive to the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, which was buried by the lava and ash expelled by Mount Vesuvius in the eruption of 79 AD.
Once we arrive at this archaeological site, we'll embark on a guided tour of Pompeii. During the approximately 2-hour tour of the site, we'll discover the remaining landmarks of the ancient city, including the House of the Faun, the Amphitheatre and the House of Menander.
How did the citizens of Pompeii live? Could they have foreseen the eruption of Mount Vesuvius? We'll answer these questions and many more while exploring the ancient Roman city. After visiting the archaeological site, you'll have 1 hour of free time to grab yourself some lunch in the local area.
After lunch, we'll continue our excursion to Herculaneum. In this ancient Roman coastal city, which was also buried by lava in 79 AD, we'll discover its well-preserved remains - particularly the Casa dei Cervi (House of Deer) and the Sacello degli Augustali (Shrine of Augustales).
After the guided tour of Herculaneum, we'll go to a local cameo workshop to see how these accessory pieces are made. We'll conclude the excursion by finally returning to the meeting points, where we're scheduled to arrive 8 hours after pickup.
